“Under the Boardwalk” for the Baritone Ukulele

I finally distributed instruments to my students! What I’ve learned is, there are SO many great video tutorials out there for the GCEA ukulele. But not really the baritone. There are some introductory lessons, but nearly nothing about how to play easy songs. My guess is that people are assuming players are coming from a GCEA background. However, my students are not. (I didn’t, either.)

So I will be doing everything I can to expand the selection of EASY songs for the baritone uke, particularly songs in G. (Also: It’s really hard to search for songs by key.) With that said, I present to you, “Under the Boardwalk” by The Drifters.

As you invest your valuable time making music with me in my videos, consider enriching your learning experience with my supplemental song sheet.

I ask a small price for my custom song sheet PDFs. The PDFs contain all of the information I show in my videos, in an easy-to-digest visual format. They are formatted to print and place in your music binder, or display on your tablet. In addition to showing which chords to play and song lyrics, these sheets also show chord diagrams to support players who are still learning.

Downloadable PDFs include full song lyrics and chord diagrams for your specified tuning.

“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” for Baritone Ukulele

I was like, “I’ll just make those two Christmas tutorials and call it good.” Right.

This song is challenging, not just because of the chords used, but the sheer number of chords that we don’t see terribly often in the simpler songs. Hopefully in the video it helps when I break it down, it definitely took a lot of time for me to learn this. Don’t give up! Use my supplemental PDF to help with your practice.

“Leatherwing Bat” for Baritone Ukulele

This song is so much fun to sing because of its modal character. The chords move quickly, but it’s okay because they’re easy chords and there are only 3 of them (G, D7, em).

In the past, I have used this song as a basis for teaching improvisation on the recorder. You can start with B-A-G, then add the lower E as the student(s) get comfortable.

Baritone Ukulele Chord Chart – I Got Rhythm

I love this song for teaching AABA form, its fun chord progression, and just generally having fun while singing. One activity I used to do with elementary students was to have them list things that made them feel good or happy, and have them make their own versions of the song using those things. I love giving students opportunities to be creative and share what they love in their lives!

“Lean On Me” Chords for Baritone Ukulele

This incredible classic by Bill Withers is great for learning fast chord switching. Like in the original piano part, my arrangement goes through each triad (C-dm-em-F) to support the simple and effective melody. My accompanying song sheet includes tips on how to count through the chord switches in the verse and the chuck patterns in the chorus.

10 Kids’ Songs Using 2 Chords – Ukulele and Baritone Ukulele

This is my collection of 10 kids’ songs that only use 2 chords on the ukulele. Songs include the Itsy Bitsy Spider, Make New Friends, Baby Bumblebee, My Darling Clementine, Did You Ever See a Lassie, This Old Man, Six Little Ducks, The Wheels on the Bus, The Farmer in the Dell, and the Hokey Pokey. In this resource, all of the songs use the C and G7 chords.

To supplement the video, I have created song sheet downloads for each ukulele tuning – GCEA and DGBE. It’s always tricky to find good kids’ songs with only 2 chords, so I hope you find this convenient! I always display chord diagrams on the pages for the ease of people still learning.

Play along with me here – The video displays chords for both GCEA and DGBE tunings.
